Insinuating whispers are from Satan
Q29: I often feel overcome by insinuating thoughts and whispers. When I intend to walk in one direction, I get the feeling that I am headed the wrong way. When I begin to eat, these whispers tell me that the food is not good and is harmful. Please guide me, may Allah reward you!
A:
These insinuating whispers are from Satan, as Allah (may He be Exalted and Glorified) says (what means):Surah Al-Nas, 114:
1
Say: “I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of mankind
Surah Al-Nas, 114:
2
The King of mankind
Surah Al-Nas, 114:
3
The God of mankind
Surah Al-Nas, 114:
4
From the evil of the whisperer (who whispers evil in the hearts of men) who withdraws (after one remembers Allah).”
(Surah Al-Nas, 114:1-4).The whisperer is Satan.
So, you must seek refuge in Allah from Satan, beware of his traps, and be certain of what you are doing. If you are traveling down one road, do so with confidence and continue down that road till you have reason to believe something may harm you, in which case you should turn away.
The same applies to foods you know are lawful. You should partake of them freely and ignore these whispers. As for ablution and offering Salah (prayer), the same is true. You should be certain of what you have done and disregard whispers that suggest you have missed any necessary act.
Be careful of insinuating whispers in everything and mind that they are from Satan. When you feel an onset of these whispers, you should seek refuge in Allah from Satan and be certain of what you have done. You should go forth with the conviction that you are strong enough to overcome your enemy, i.e., Satan. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil and deception of Satan.
